Completely misleading. Shame on Travelocity
23/06/2014
I was looking forward to celebrating our anniversary with an authentic Polynesian ex-perience, far from the westernized resorts. Based on the reviews on Travelocity we chose A Pueu Village, a place that seemed clean and enjoyable. We booked 4 months ahead. It took us a long time to find the place because there was no proper signage. We pulled in around 5:00pm and you would think the owner would be looking to wel-come clients. My husband had to walk around abandoned concrete buildings to finally have the owner come out. There were 4 humid, rundown bungalows that were in terri-ble condition. There was no pool as the photos on trip Advisor indicated (the owner said he didn't fill it. The murky drained out pond was nothing like the pictures). The entire place was dirty looking and the owner had no concept of how to greet guests. It is unbelievable that Trip advisor doesn't verify the truth about what is posted online. There was no way on earth we were going to stay in that place, and the price for such poor accommodations was completely inflated.

Wonderful friendly owners

I write this review after reading Henriette P1. What did you expect in Tahiti for $60/night? We stayed with Victor and Blandine for 3 days at the end of Nov 2012. Victor met us at the airport and took us shopping as we did not have a car. Blandine took my wife to the beach near Gaugin's museum. And they were both looked after us very well and we had a meal with them. The cabin was perfectly good for making basic meals and you could walk 10 yards and snorkel among the tropical fish and reef corals. I am now sure why you would sit in your cabin reading when you could be meeting and talking with the locals. The place is near unfinished and abandoned concrete buildings and the area is a bit crummy - as I found out when I walked around the area. But Victor and Blondine made up for that as did the view across the bay to the reefs. If you want a fancy forgettable 'western' experience you can check in at the Intercontinental (which will cost you a lot more than $60). The only surprise was how far away from the main town the resort was (we should have checked). But Victors son took us to the airport late at night when we left and knocked a fair bit off the normal transport cost. This is a fabulous place to stay - thank you Victor and Blondine.

Pueu Village - hidden gem
12/04/2013
Spent three days in Pueu Village with another couple in March, 2013, and what a terrific and relaxing time it was...a great way to kick off our trip. Victor and Blondin were wonderful hosts, giving us some ideas of things to see and do, and providing coffee in the AM. The bungalows are in good condition, and provide a great mix of what you really need (kitchenette, nice bed, fan and above all clean!), as well as great access to swimming and snorkeling right out the front door. The price is very reasonable, especially compared to the other options. We rented a car, which I recommend, since the stores are 10 km down the road. You can find anything you need in Taravao. Finding the place was a challenge because the sign was overgrown with palm fronds, but it's right across the road from an 8 foot orange wall surrounding the local soccer pitch (watched part of a local game there Saturday night). The one thing I didn't fully appreciate until we got to our rental house in Moorea...no roosters running amok in Pueu like we encountered in Maharepa. Pueu was sooo nice and quiet for sleeping at night. Overall, I'd do it again in a minute, and recommend you check it out

Lovely waterfront bungalows

This was our first introduction to French Polynesia, the beginning of a two month trip. Overall, A Pueu Village was a good experience. The location was far from anything useful and a car became essential to see the island or get supplies. The hosts were very kind but other reviewers seem to have had better luck with having meals, coffee, etc. Victor did take us to the grocery store our first morning. If a ride is long, he will charge, so make sure to ask beforehand because he didn't say anything until check out. But the bungalow was fantastic, we had a huge kitchen. It was nice and clean. The back patio on the lagoon is wonderful. We really enjoyed Tahiti and found it to be an underrated island, full of modcons that you can bring to the more remote islands. The giant Carrefour in the nearby town has super prices on most things. I found snorkel gear and reef shoes there.

Great holiday spot and great hosts

We only stayed for 2 nights but we arrived in Papeete at 5am so after an hours drive in a rental car we were at Pueu Village where Victor and Blandine welcomed us warmly. The bungalow was really cute and it was nice we could open it all up and let the breeze through. The kids loved the little pond with the fish in it and also the lagoon where we snorkled and saw all the amazing tropical fish. Our 6 year old daughter cut her knee open on the coral and Balndine escorted us to the local hospital so she could get it stitched up. Because we were foreigners and the Tahitian socialized health system, the hospital didn't know how much to charge us. Blandine offered to pay for the medical charges once the hospital had figured out what they would be. It was so gracious of her and we were deeply moved by her generosity. The next day Victor told us he had finished cleaning out the pool and had filled it with sea water so we spent some time swimming in it and relaxing. It was less stressful than swimming in the lagoon with our wee kids. The night before we departed Blandine offered to wash and dry our laundry which was really appreciated. We wished we could have stayed longer. We were glad we decided to get a rental car, there is a nice beach a few km from Pueu Village and is an ideal swimming spot. We also drove up to some waterfalls and enjoyed the seaside roads which were in very good condition. We will be back one day ,hopefully for more than 2 nights.
